Facilitation Services
At J. L. Gore & Co. we believe in a collaborative, team approach to
strategic planning. We seek to work with the whole senior management
team believing that the process will have a greater impact if all
responsible for implementation have a part in creating the plan. J. L.
Gore & Co. provides Strategic Plan facilitation services utilizing the
SWOT method. We can tailor our approach based on specific client
requirements but primarily our SWOT sessions take place off-site on
one to three consecutive days. During these off site sessions we
guide your management team through a process that identifies the
factors impacting your organization's future. Using this information
the group revises the Mission Statement (if necessary), creates goals,
determines strategies, and breaks down implementation steps. All of
these steps are documented and form the backbone of the written strategic
plan.
Personal Strategic Planning Training
Once a strategic plan is created, at your option, our consultants can
take your executive and or middle management staff through a personal
strategic planning process. This process will seek to develop management's
skills while at the same time providing each manager with a framework for
implementing the strategic plan in their area of responsibility.
Strategic Planning Facilitation FAQ's
- What does the strategic plan facilitation process look like?
- A strategic planning team is formed consisting of members of senior
and general management along with any key members of middle management
that are need. J. L. Gore & Co. (JLGC) staff will spend one day on site
at your location meeting the strategic planning team, getting a basic
overview of your company, and providing an orientation on the strategic
planning process to team members. Then a one to three day off site
strategic planning session is held. JLGC staff will take your team
through a SWOT analysis, this analysis is used to evaluate your mission
statement and goals, as well as create strategies and determine
implementation steps. JLGC staff will then take the output from the
off-site session and create a draft written strategic plan. That plan
will be reviewed by senior management and once finalized will be presented
to and reviewed by the project team.
- What is SWOT analysis?
- SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats. SWOT is a
methodology used to examine both internal company issues as well as the
external environment in which a company operates. Through the SWOT analysis
a mission statement is refined, goals are set and strategies are created
and assigned to team members.
- What type of strategic planning follow-up services are available?
- JLGC has two follow-up options, you can choose either option or implement
both simultaneously. The first is personal strategic planning training for
each member of the management team responsible for strategic plan
implementation. Second is quarterly strategic planning team reviews
facilitated by JLGC to review the previous quarter's progress and set the
agenda for the coming quarter.
- How does the personal strategic planning process for management work?
- We start the process by helping senior management identify the members of
your management team who should participate in the program. We then hold
weekly group training sessions for 8 weeks. At the end of the 8 weeks each
participant will have a strategic plan personalized for them covering
professional development issues and implementation of the larger company
strategic plan in their area of responsibility. The trainer then schedules
periodic one on one follows-up (usually by phone) with each training participant
to help them refine their approach and make adjustments to their plan. The
trainer is also on call for each trainee during the follow-up period if they
run into issues between scheduled contacts. The follow-up period typically
last one year.
- What type of strategic plan implementation services are available?
- JLGC offers project management services for clients that wish to have us
support internal staff in driving one or more key strategies. JLGC has in the
past provided the following services for strategic planning clients: searches for
and evaluation of potential acquisition targets, purchase of acquisition targets,
integration of acquisitions, business plans and startup general management
services for new subsidiaries, cost reduction evaluations, IT infrastructure
evaluation, security audits and system upgrades, strategic sale of assets,
identifying and forging of strategic partnerships, driving key internal and
external strategic initiatives.
- What costs are associated with strategic planning services?
- JLGC charges time, mileage and travel expenses for strategic planning services.
Our billing is based on a hourly rate that is below prevailing rates. We will
in most cases be able to provide a fixed price quote for facilitation services
and an estimate of hours required for project management services. Our personal
strategic planning program is based on a per seat price. We would be happy to
discuss your companies requirements and provide a formal proposal at your convenience.
